As a department, our overarching goal for donor contributions is to:
Establish a $5 million scholarship endowment over the next five years.
The interest from this endowment will create forty to fifty full tuition, renewable scholarships for students at nearly every level. While we definitely have capital and equipment needs, we firmly believe that donor contributions should be directed toward student scholarships first. As such, we encourage donors to consider giving to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Alumni Fund.
If donors have a more specific idea of where they would like their contributions directed, they may consider one of the many funds designated below. Some funds are endowed, meaning the interest is used as indicated by the fund description. Other funds pay out the principal for the purposes described in the fund description.
A general purpose fund that gives maximum flexibility to the Department for a variety of purposes is the ECE Gift Fund. Among other things, the ECE Gift Fund is largely used to support first year students.
If you are interested in establishing a scholarship fund, please contact the Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Dr. Mohamad Musavi (207) 581-2223 or email the Department Chair. You may wish to look at a preliminary guide for establishing an unendowed scholarship (pays out principal) or a guide for establishing an endowed scholarship (pays out income).
Thank you VERY much for your consideration.
Mohamad Musavi, PhD Chair, Electrical and Computer Engineering
